Wedding Invitations – Top Ten Tips!

When it comes to ordering your wedding stationery, there can be a lot to decide!

Who will you invite?

Will they be a day guest or an evening guest?

Will you take the modern or traditional approach?

What theme of design will you go for?

How about colours?

Flat or folded invitations?

What information do you need to include and what do your guests need to know?

We know that there is a lot to think about with your wedding invites so we’ve put together our top tips for when it comes to ordering your wedding invitations…

Remember – double check your guest list When you’re making your guest list and tallying up the amount of invitations you need, remember that as well as some individual guests, the majority of your invitations are going to couple’s, families and households! You don’t need a separate invitation for each guest, which means that you probably don’t need as many invitations as you thought you would.

Order extras – just in case! We always recommend ordering extra invitations; you never know when you might need them! If you order the minimum required and realise later that you need a few more, it will end up costing you more money due to the small print run. It’s easy to forget to include people on your guest list, and having additional invitations means that you won’t be caught out – plus, it’s always nice to have one yourself to add to a memory box as a keepsake.

Get organised Planning a wedding can be quite a stressful experience. With so many things to organise, it can be easy to forget about some of the finer details. Make sure that you leave plenty of time to order your invitations and get them sent out to your guests. You want as many people as possible to be able to attend, so get your stationery ordered as soon as you have confirmed your wedding date, venue and guest list. We try and make the ordering of your stationery as stress-free as possible and want it to be an enjoyable experience for you, rather than a rushed one!

Always get a sample When you find an invitation design that you like, we recommend getting your hands on a sample. You can get a good look at the colours and design and feel the quality of the card and envelopes. To get your free sample pack from

Think about your wording We customise all our stationery to reflect what our clients would like to include on their invitations. Some prefer to stick to traditional invitation wording, but others like to put a modern twist on theirs and include things such as favourite quotes, song lyrics or poems. Everybody’s family dynamics are different, so the more traditional way of wording an invitation may not apply to you. If you’re unsure, ask! We are always happy to help and give advice when we can, and nothing is sent to print until you are 100% happy.

Handwritten or printed? When it comes to writing your invitations, do you prefer hand writing your guest names or having them printed? There are pros for both; having them printed makes your invitations look ‘finished’ as the font used will match the colour and font in the invitation design, but writing them out by hand can add a more personal touch to your wedding invitations. The other option is to not include guest names at all on the invitation itself, but just on the envelope, or pre-printed onto the rsvp card!

Get more Rsvp’s! Collecting and receiving your wedding rsvp’s might fill you with dread, but we have some clever ways of making sure that your guests send their rsvp back to you! One of our hints is to include your wedding menu, and ask your guests to decide on their meal, or confirm that they have no dietary requirements. Another option is adding a line for your guests to request a song from your wedding DJ/band. We like to use ‘I promise to dance if you play…’ – works like a dream!

Customise to suit your wedding colours Did you know that we can customise all our stationery designs to compliment your wedding colours? We can change everything: fonts, wording, layout, colours, artwork and format. It’s a great way of incorporating your wedding colours and putting your own stamp on our designs. The best part is that this is a free service that we offer – there are no additional charges for this service, and we love seeing different variations of our designs!

Don’t be afraid to ask If you need help or advice, always ask your stationer! Part of our job is to offer our expertise when it comes to wedding invitations. The chances are that you haven’t had much experience and may be unsure of the etiquette etc, whereas we do this every day! Never be worried about asking a question that you think might be ‘silly’. We are here to help you at every stage and to make sure that your wedding invitations not only reflect you as a couple but give your guests a glimpse of how beautiful your wedding day is going to be.

Enjoy it! This is such a special time in your life, so make sure that you enjoy it! Why not organise a get together with your bridesmaids for some stationery admin – they will love to get involved, and can help with your wording, write addresses on envelopes or get your invitations posted out. This is your wedding day that you are organising, so make sure that you enjoy every second!
